Mrs A

I feel like Mrs A and I have become friends, we talk a lot and as she becomes more lucid, her mischievous sense of humour is unveiled so we laugh a lot too! She's happy and I have great job satisfaction knowing I'm creating some value to her daily life during her long stay in a SW London hospital.

Mrs. A is an elderly lady with impaired cognition as a result of a brain injury sustained after a road traffic accident. She has been a long-term patient in a major trauma unit. Despite having a loving, caring family, their busy lives necessitated hiring HP Homecare to provide one-on-one attention when they can’t be with her.

Mrs. A worked in the medical profession all her life at a high level for 60 years, making the hospital environment somewhat comforting due to many fond memories. Given the one-to-one care from HP Homecare, she can share those memories and have conversations with her HP personal carer.

Her faith is important to her, and she makes regular visits to the hospital chapel for prayer and quiet contemplation with her HP personal carer, expressing gratitude for the spiritual sustenance. Mrs. A also enjoys lunch at the hospital restaurant with her carer and goes for wheelchair walks, happily sitting in the garden, browsing the hospital shops, and speaking to other patients and staff. This personal support enables interactions she wouldn’t otherwise have.

Our carer, Mel, reflects on her experience: “I feel like Mrs. A and I have become friends. We talk a lot, and as she becomes more lucid, her mischievous sense of humour is unveiled, so we laugh a lot too! She’s happy, and I have great job satisfaction knowing I’m creating some value to her daily life during her long stay in a SW London hospital.”

Through these examples, we celebrate and encourage the extraordinary contributions of our team members, underscoring the importance of going the extra mile in defining the quality and character of HP Homecare’s services.
